Ellen Swanton, born in Ireland, daughter of Thomas Swanton, married William Good, laborer born in Ireland, son of Thomas Good, on January 14, 1855 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Boston, MA.

Marriage witnesses were Jeremiah Murphy and Catharine Coffey.  (Published at St. John Baptist's)

William was not Catholic, and signed the following statement in the parish register:

"I the undersigned about to marry Ellen Swanton, solemnly promise that I never will disturb her in the exercise of her religion and that if God grant us children they shall be brought up in the faith and practices of the Catholic Church"

Francis E. Swanton was born in Dexter, Maine, and was the son of Henry G. Swanton and Elizabeth Hyde. He died on March 76, 1916 of Adams Stokes disease and cancer of the stomach. He lived in Attleboro at the time of his death. He was a tinsmith/clerk/plumber. He was buried in Hopkinton, MA.

Frank Swanton married Addie Mary Fairbrother (aka Mary Addie Fairbrother), who was born in Skowhegan (Norridgewock), ME in about 1824. Mary Addie died on January 8, 1943 of broncho pneumonia at the age of 89 years, 9 months, 15 days in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Mary Addie's parents were Ethemore Fairbrother and Lavina Blagdon, who were both born in Maine. Mary Addie Fairbrother Swanton was buried in the Hopkinton Cemetery on January 10, 1943.

James Swanton, carpenter, farmer, was born around 1813 in County Cork, Ireland. He was the son of John Swanton. He may have been the brother of my great great grandfather, Michael Swanton. He arrived in Boston on the S. S. Catalonia on June 4, 1888 with his wife, Kate Regan Swanton, and his son, James. He died in Plymouth, MA on December 26, 1888.

James married Catherine McCarthy (also shown as Carty) on February 23, 1841 in the Roman Catholic Church in Enniskeane, County Cork, Ireland. Marriage witnesses were Jeremiah Carty and Jeremiah Murphy. Catherine McCarthy Swanton died on September 22, 1864 in Coppeen, Dunmanway, County Cork of mortification of the arm, the result of an accident, 4 days.

James married Catherine Regan on June 10, 1871 in the Roman Catholic Church in Enniskeane, County Cork. Marriage witnesses were Margaret Crowly and Mary Regan.

John Swanton, grocer, bartender, born 1849 in Coppeen, Ireland, died July 26, 1876 in Cambridge, MA of cancer of the thigh,  parents were James Swanton and Catherine (McCarthy) married Bridget Mahony, widow, on August 13, 1871 at Sacred Heart church in Cambridge, MA by Father Shinnick, Catholic priest. Marriage witnesses were Patrick J. Mahoney and Hannah Swanton.

Bridget's first husband was a Hurley. Bridget Mahony Hurley Swanton was born in 1846 in County Cork, Ireland and died in 1923 in Arlington, MA. Her parents were Patrick Mahony and Annie McCarthy. Bridget died at the age of 71 on July 20, 1923 of a cerebral hemorrhage. She also suffered from arteriosclerosis. 

Bridget has immigrated to Boston in 1883. When she died, she had been living at 317 Massachusetts Ave in Arlington for 2 years. Her daughter, Ellen, lived with her. Bridget  is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, MA.

Ellen E. Swanton, born October 13, 1872, Cambridge, MA. Ellen died on November 20, 1856 at the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 6 days. She was a retired dressmaker and had lived at 5 Arlington Street, Cambridge, MA for the previous 4 years. She died of carcinoma of the left breast with metastasis, and also had Parkinson's Disease. She was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, MA on November 21, 1956. 

Anna (Annie) Swanton, born on October 7, 1874 in South Boston, MA, died August 9, 1876 Cambridge, MA of diptheria.

James Stevens Swanton was born August 1, 1874 in Coppeen, Dunmanway, County Cork. He arrived in Boston on the S. S. Catalonia on June 4, 1888 with his parents. He married Mary Abbie Kingsley, governess, born in 1895, daughter of John M. Kingsley and Ella R. Raymond, on June 26, 1932 in Plymouth, MA.

Anastasia (Anstica) Swanton, baptised February 9, 1869, Dunmanway Roman Catholic Church,  sponsors: William Kelleher & Mary Sheehan  I found the death record in Boston for an Annie Swanton, the daughter of Jeremiah Swanton and Mary Fehiley. 

She died at the age of 36 on December 27, 1918 of pulmonary tuberculosis, with dementia praecox (schizophrenia) given as a contributory cause of death. She was a waitress and had lived in Worcester for 4 years. She was 36 when she died (although this doesn't coincide with her birth date..

Catherine Swanton, born December 1, 1908, died December 2, 1908. Cause of death premature birth. Her parents lived at 103 Sharon Street, Springfield, MA. She was buried at St. Michael's Cemetery in Springfield.

Garrett Swanton, born on March 16, 1907, died April 29, 1907 at 1 month, 13 days. He died at home at 3 Grays Avenue, Springfield, MA of marasmus (severe protein and energy deficiency). He was buried in St. Michael's Cemetery on May 1, 1907.

Marie M. Swanton, born in 1903 in Springfield, MA. She was a telephone operator for Western Union and lived at 21 Joy Street, Boston, MA. She died on February 7, 1965 of metastatic adenocarcinoma and adenocardinoma of rectum. She also had rheumatic heart disease and mitral stenosis. She is buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury. The informant of her death was her daughter, Beverly Chapman, who lived at 1248 West Downey Avenue in Flint Michigan in 1965. 

Marie's death certificate indicates that she was widowed, but her maiden name was Swanton, and I did not find any marriage records in Massachusetts for a Marie Swanton.

John Swanton, bleacher, born in Ireland in 1848, son of Job Swanton and Mary Jane, married Jane Abbott Wright, born in Ireland in 1848, died in Boston in 1914, daughter of Benjamin Wright and Mary Jane, married January 18, 1872 in Peabody, MA by Albert Gould, clergyman, Peabody

Thomas Swanton, glue manufacturer, born in Ireland on Nov. 1, 1855,  married Elizabeth Ann Locke in 1883 in Peabody, MA (Vol 343, Page 345)

According to the Swanton Family History Worldwide, Thomas Swanton was born in Skibbereen, Ireland, on November 1, 1855, and died on June 30, 1938 at the age of 83. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Hammond, Indiana. He married Elizabeth (Lizzie) on May 24, 1883 in Grace Episcopal Church in Salem, Massachusetts. 

Thomas Swanton immigrated to American in 1876, and became a naturalized citizen on September 1, 1883 in Peabody, Massachusetts.  He lived at one time in Springfield, Pennsylvania, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Kansas City, Missouri. He moved to Hammond, Indiana in 1896. 

In Hammond, Thomas Swanton was Police Commissioner, member of the Board of Public Works and Commissioner at large. He built the American Glue Factory and managed it for 18 years. He was a Mason and an Elk. Thomas went to Turin, Italy, in 1914 to construct a gelatin plant, and he stayed there for two years. His wife and his four youngest children, Emma, John, Bill and Sarah, went with him.

In Hammond, Indiana, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, there is a memorial stained glass window to Thomas and Elizabeth Swanton that was given by John and Winifred Swanton. It is the center front window.

William Swanton, laborer, single, born in Ireland in 1860, son of Job Swanton and Mary, died on November 23, 1883 in Peabody, MA at age 23 of cardiac phennation.

William Swanton, was born on December 19, 1837 in Ballydehob, County Cork, Ireland, according to his naturalization papers.  He arrived in New York on May 1, 1851, and died in 1913 in Boston, MA.  I'm not certain he belongs in this family group--his death certificate gave his parents names as John Swanton and Mary Collins.

Ellen died on July 9, 1914 of arteriosclerosis in New Bedford. Ellen's death certificate states that she was born in Ireland in about 1833 and that her parents were James Lynch and Cecilia McLaughlin. Her death was reported by her son, John D. Swanton, of 105 HIllman Street, New Bedford. She was buried in St. Mary's Hospital on July 11, 1914.

William Swanton died at the age of 81 on September 3, 1913 of arteriosclerosis. His son, John D. Swanton, reported his death. John lived at 564 County Street. John D. Swanton was born in New Bedford, MA in 1872. On April 23, 1906, he married Agatha Maxin, the daughter of George Maxin and Ellen Cunningham. They were married by P. Joseph Martin, a Catholic priest. His occupation was a shoemaker. Agatha was born in Brockton in about 1877, and lived in Fall River, Massachusetts when she and John were married. It was the first marriage for both of them.

In 1925, John worked as a foreman in a shoe factory. He died on January 23, 1925 of carelnoma rectum and chronic myocarditis. He lived at 105 Hillman Street, New Bedford, MA. Agatha Maxin Swanton died in 1961 at age 89.

Mary L. Swanton (Mamie) was born on April 21, 1888 in New  Bedford, Massachusetts. Her parents were John D. Swanton and Cecia Mosher (or Cecelia Morjean)--I found no marriage record for eitherHer mother was born in Canada. When Mary was born, John Swanton was a shoemaker and lived at 528 Achusnet Avenue in New Bedford.

On August 26, 1907, at the age of 19, she married Guy Gouch. Guy was born in Winslow, Pennsylvania, and his parents were Daniel Gouch and Lucy A. Miller. Guy was a screw machine operator when he married Mary, who was working as a waitress.They were married by H. J. Smyith, a Catholic priest.

On Mary's marriage record, the names of her parents were John D. Swanton and Cecelia Morjean. On her birth record, the names of her parents were John D. Swanton and Celia Mosher.
