seaman and lived in Rathcoursey, parish of Aghada,
Midleton. His father was Michael Swanton, a carpenter.
On
June 24, 1866, Joseph married Margaret Olden in the Roman Catholic Chapel of
Aghada, Union of Midleton, Cork.
Margaret was the daughter of Michael Olden, a fisherman. She lived in Rathcoursey
in the parish of Aghada, Midleton. The witnesses to their marriage were
Matthew Lyons and Mary Swanton.
They had the following child:

Margaret may have been widowed and remarried John Swanton, son of Garrett
Swanton of Rathcoursey.

3. Nancy Swanton was born about 1848. She was Catholic and the
daughter of Michael Swanton, a labourer. In 1868
she was a servant living at Daugan Bay, Bandon.
On
February 16, 1868, at the age of 20, she married William Flynn, a labourer,
in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Bandon.
William was the son of William Flynn, a farmer, and he lived in Clancool,
Bandon. The witnesses to their marriage were Laurence Flynn and Mary Flynn.
Nancy and William may have emigrated to Australia where they had the following
children:
