1. George Swanton was the son of George Swanton, a farmer. George may have originally been from Rathcoursey East, Midleton, Cork. He was a seaman in the Royal Navy on the H. M. S. Revenge. On September 2, 1886, he married Ellen Glavin of Whitepoint, Queenstown, County Cork.
Ellen was the daughter of Garrett Glavin, a gardener. George and Ellen were married in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Queenstown. The marriage witnesses were Jerry Coughlan and Margaret Albert.
